My best guess is that the Linney family with Shawnee roots intermarried with the Hoggard family - with Choctaw origins in the mid 19th century. The Linney's seem most closely associated with the Absentee band of Shawnee. There may be connections with the Caddo indians as well. The only Mollie E. Linney I can find in the records moved to Kentucky and died there. If this is the same person, she may have remarried with the name Robertson. This would conflict with the family story that she died shortly after the birth of her daughter while taking the child to visit with her family. The only known facts are the daughter, Elta Onie Langford and her brother Perry Langford remained in contact and are both buried in the Cottonwood (AZ) Cemetery. The Arizona Death Certificate has Elta Langford Edens date of birth as 12-25-87 in Center City, Texas. The date of death of January 10, 1950. Her father's name is listed as William Langford of Texas. Her mother's name is handwritten in as "unknown" with the typed last name of Linney. it appears that the handwriting was the physicians. Texas Marriage records 1837 - 1973 show William Langford married M.E. Linney 26 Oct 1882 in Coryell Texas from Family Search with the original sources listed as Texas VR. George Linney b. Paul "Polite" Garsee 25 Dec 1818 in Lousiana Boyle County Obituaries LINNEY -- The death of Mrs. Margaret Linney Tuesday last from flux, complicated by heart disease, was accompied by circumstances of unusual sadness. Her husband and youngest daughter were visiting in Virginia and both were to ill to travel when apprised of her dangerous condition. Her son, Dr. Robert Knox, of Richmond, Texas, was also unable to reach her bed-side after receiving the melancholy intelligence of her hopeless illness. A late telegram from Mr. Linney reports the condition of his daughter "quite hopeful." (Published in the KENTUCKY ADVOCATE, 1 August 1884.)
