Subject: Chickasaw and Red River

Hi Mom,

Came across a reference which connects the Chickasaw nation

with the Red
River. Here it is:

http://www.flash.net/~kma/t15.htm

TREATY WITH THE CHOCTAW AND CHICKASAW -- 1854

ARTICLE 1. It is agreed by the Choctaw and Chickasaw tribes of

Indians, in
lieu of the boundaries established under article second of the

convention
and agreement entered into between said tribes, January 17th,

A. D. 1837,
the Chickasaw district of the Choctaw nation shall be bounded

as follows,
viz: Beginning on the north bank of the Red River, at the mouth

of island
Bayou, where it empties into the Red River, about twenty-six

miles on a
straight, line, below the mouth of False Wachitta, thence running

a
northwesterly course, along the main channel of said bayou to

the junction
of three prongs of said bayou nearest the dividing ridge between

Wachitta
and Low Blue rivers, as laid down upon Capt. R. L. Hunter's

map; thence,
northerly along the eastern prong of Island Bayou to its source;

thence,
due north to the Canadian River, thence west, along the main

Canadian, to
one hundred degrees of west longitude; thence south to Red

River, and down
Red River to the beginning: Provided, however, if the line

running due
north from the eastern source of Island Bayou to the main

Canadian shall
not include Allen's or Wa-pa-nacka academy within the

Chickasaw district,
then an offset shall be made from said line so as to leave said

academy
two miles within the Chickasaw district, north, west, and south

from the
lines of boundary.

Hello John and Shirl ey. John, I am assuming you are a

descendent of J.R.
Leonard and Nancy Linney. My great-grandmother was Louisa

Linney,Nancy's
sister. Both are children of George Linney and Nancy Hoggard. I

believe
George Linney was the son of George Linney and Patsey

McDaniel.Another son
of George and brother to the younger George was named

Perry Linney who
lived and died in the Fannin Co., Tx. region. I look forward to

hearing
from both of you.

Maps and History of Indian Territory

Indian Territory, 1855-1866

Huge changes stunned the peoples in two native tribes. In 1855

and 1856,
the lives of these people changed for all time. The changes

came from new
treaties. The Chickasaws and the Seminoles signed new

contracts with the
U.S. More of the land that belonged to the tribes was leased to

the
government. The tribes were moved further west.

The Chickasaws kept the middle part of the old Choctaw-

Chickasaw
district. They leased the lands west of the 98th meridian.

Ranchers
wanted the right to graze cattle there. The tribes who were

already
living there were allowed to stay.
