Judge Dewey Langford, known as one of the most scholarly men of this section, came from Hico to Hamilton in 1907. He was a college professor in Kentucky before coming to Texas, and was also a journalist. He practiced law in Hamilton, a partner of Judge H. E. Chesley.

Attorneys Chesley and Langford, before becoming partners had the distinction pf carrying a case through the Supreme Court of the United States. The case concerned a liquor law in Texas which required that a dealer put up a $5,000 bond so that if he sold liquor to a minor he could be sued. The Supreme Court upheld the constitutionality of the statute which required the bond.

Mrs. Langford still lives in Hamilton (1938), as does her daughter, Mrs. Merle McKinley. Two other daughters, Mrs. Ursie Carlton and Mrs. Lorna Carlton live in Fort Worth, and another daughter, Mrs. Josephine Chesley lives in Waco.
