Comments:	Very interesting, my branch of the Linney family comes from Ashton under Lyne near Manchester England and seem to have been connected in the 1500's with the Linneys living not far away in Wilmslow, Cheshire. William is a family name that often recurrs. I am fortunate in that the Parish records survive back to 1570. As the name is unusual, it seem likely that the families are related at some point. Comments:	My grandfather, Daniel Linney grew up in Duntocher, Scotland, outside of Glasgow. He was a ship's carpenter who helped build the Queen Mary. He emigrated to Winnipeg, Canada in 1923, at the age of 27. There he married Gertrude Grant (nee Langton), a widow with four children. They had five more children together. He died at the age of 101, much revered by his family and community. His Scottish accent had mellowed but was still very much with him at the time of his death. He was an inspiration to all of us. His name (Daniel) lives on in many of the sons of his branch. I left Winnipeg for the San Francisco Bay Area in 1978 and have lived here ever since. Hope to visit Duntocher one day.

No one in the family can say where Grandad Linney came from: He married Helen Woolam I assume in Liverpoolat about 1911/1912 he had six sons and two daughters, Thomas Linney borne about 1913, Emily James, Henry (my dad) sadly died 1986, Richard, Joseph,& Louise , One older brother died in infancy. My Grandad Henry Linney, fought in both of the wars he was too young to enlist in the WW 1 but managed somehow. He lost his sight in 1954 he, was a very talented man, he died in 1969. Thomas (Tucker) died 1963 James a few years later, Louise died two years after my dad.

Comments:	On speaking to my father, i find that some of the details that i submitted were wrong, There was no Jack Lee Linney, but there was a Samuel Lee Linney, Ernest Lee Linney and Arthur Lee Linney. My Grandfather was Ernest Lee Linney His Children Included My Dad Joe Lee, My Uncle Alan Lee, Ian Lee, Maureen Lee, I've not seen maureen for around 15 years and cannot recall meeting her children. Uncle Alan and his family Auntie Jill, Scott, Tracy & Jodie are closest. I see Ian in bars around town quiet regular he has three children.Other family members were Uncle Ernie Deceased, Uncle Yagga Deceased and Auntie Nancy Deceased they all died within a week of each other, they had children and grandchildren that i have never met. Comments:	Looked up Linney in the Oxford English Dictionery, the humongous one started by the Victorians. A linney is a small shed or outbuilding on a farm. Sounds as if linney is related to "lean to." Saw my husband's grandfather listed as a boy in the British 1881 census courtesy of the local Latter Day Saints Family History Center. They had it on CD.

Comments:	I am the brother of gary and micheal, we are the sons of Joseph Lee Linney, who is the son of Ernest "Sonnie" Linney, the brother of PoP and jack linney, who were the sons of Ernest Linney, he came to nottingham england in the earliy 1900s from Ireland his brother went to the USA at around the same time, they never saw each other again. My great grandfather (Ernest) came to England to find work, he went to fight the first world war, was a highly decorated soldier and fought many campaigns in the machine gun corps, he was discharged from the Army in 1918 with battle stress. He was reported to have killed a over 1000 enemy troops at the battle of somme alone. On his return from war he settled in Thrybergh Rotherham where he had sons Pop deceased, Jack details unknown, and sonnie my grandfarther a miner until the 1966 paddy crash at silverwood colliery on surviving my grandfather vowed never to go down the pit again, he never did. His convict indent gives the following information - age 28, single, could not read or write, native place Hants, occupation - ploughman, malster Reaps, offence - horse stealing (by the newspaper report the horse stealing was at Cheritan - which I presume was Cheritan near Winchester (but one should not presume in family history). He was found guilty at trail in Winchester 28 Ma
